Privacy and your data

The calculators on this site run in your browser, so the numbers you type into them are never sent to a server.

Calculators stay in your browser

The calculators on this site run in your browser, and the numbers you enter are never sent to a server. If you work out the margin on a 0.10-lot gold position, or convert a pip value, that arithmetic happens on your own device. We do not receive the position size, the price or the result, and there is nothing stored on our side to retrieve later.

This matters for a trading site because the numbers a reader types in can reveal how much they trade and how much they have at risk. We do not want that, and we do not collect it. The same applies to anything you type into a form on this site that does not leave your browser.

How long data is kept and what deletes it

The functionality cookie that remembers your cookie notice choice is kept for twelve months from the day you dismiss the notice. The analytics cookie is kept for thirteen months from your last visit. The instrument selection in local storage has no expiry date and remains until you clear your browser storage or change the selection. This site does not keep server-side logs of your visit beyond the time needed to serve the page, and it does not archive calculator inputs because they are never sent to the server.

Deleting the cookies through your browser settings removes the functionality and analytics cookies immediately. Clearing local storage removes the instrument selection. If you do nothing, the cookies expire on their own after twelve and thirteen months respectively, and the site will ask you about cookies again after the functionality cookie expires. This site does not have a backup of your cookie data because it does not store that data on its own servers. The analytics provider retains aggregate visit counts according to its own retention schedule, which is not controlled by this site.

If you request deletion of any data this site holds about you, we will remove the cookie notice flag and any instrument selection associated with your browser profile if we can identify it. Because those items are stored on your device, the most direct way to delete them is through your browser. This site does not keep email correspondence indefinitely; messages sent to the contact address are kept only as long as needed to answer the query and are then deleted. No data is kept for marketing purposes.

The cookies this site sets and what each kind is for

This site sets two kinds of first-party cookies: a functionality cookie that remembers your cookie notice choice, and an analytics cookie that counts page visits in aggregate. The functionality cookie is essential for the notice not to reappear on every page load, and it contains no personal identifier. The analytics cookie records a random session identifier and the pages you view on this site, but it does not record your name, email, or the numbers you type into the calculators. Neither cookie is used to build a profile of you across other websites.

The functionality cookie expires after twelve months and is set by this site directly. The analytics cookie expires after thirteen months and is also set by this site, not by a third-party advertising network. A third kind of cookie, set by brokers when you click an affiliate link, is described in the affiliate tracking section below. This site does not set advertising cookies, retargeting cookies, or social media tracking cookies. If your browser blocks cookies entirely, the site still works, but the cookie notice will appear on every visit.

The analytics cookie does not collect the content of any form field, including the lot size, account balance, or rand amounts you enter into the calculators. It records the page URL, the time of the visit, and a random identifier that is not linked to your identity. The functionality cookie records only a true or false value for whether you dismissed the notice. Neither cookie is shared with FxPro or any other broker. You can delete both cookies through your browser settings at any time, and the site will function normally afterwards.

How affiliate tracking works when you click a broker link

When you click a link to FxPro on this site, the link includes a tracking parameter that tells FxPro which page referred you. That parameter is a short code, not your personal details, and it is used to attribute any account you open to this site for compensation purposes. FxPro may then set its own cookies on your device, which are governed by FxPro's privacy policy, not this one. This site does not receive your name, email, account number, or trading activity from FxPro as part of that tracking.

The affiliate tracking parameter does not contain your IP address, your browser fingerprint, or any information you typed into this site. It is a static code attached to the link, and it is the same for every visitor who clicks that link. If you open a broker account after clicking, FxPro may pay this site a commission, but the amount and terms are set by FxPro and are not disclosed here because they are not part of the facts we hold. You can avoid affiliate tracking by typing the broker's address directly into your browser instead of clicking a link.

This site does not use affiliate tracking to follow you across other websites or to show you different content based on your trading history. The tracking parameter is not stored in this site's cookies or local storage after you leave. If you clear your browser cookies, any cookie set by FxPro after the click is removed according to your browser settings, not this site's. The affiliate relationship does not change the information on this site, and the calculators are not altered by whether you arrived through an affiliate link.

Traffic counts and local storage

We keep only aggregate traffic counts, which tell us how many visits a page received and not who made them. We do not build a profile of individual readers, and we do not sell or share visitor data with brokers. The counts exist to tell us which pages are read and which are ignored, nothing more.

Local storage in your browser holds your own preferences, such as a setting you chose on a calculator or a page you marked. That data sits on your device, is readable by your browser for this site, and can be cleared by you at any time through your browser settings. We do not mirror it on a server.

Your rights over the data this site holds and how to exercise them

You have the right to ask what data this site holds about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to its processing. Because this site stores almost nothing that identifies you, the most common request will be to confirm that no personal data is held beyond the cookie notice flag and the instrument selection. You can exercise these rights by emailing the address on the contact page, and we will respond within a reasonable period. You do not need to pay a fee to make a request.

You can delete the functionality cookie and the analytics cookie yourself through your browser settings, which removes the data this site holds on your device immediately. If you want to prevent the analytics cookie from being set in the first place, you can block cookies for this site in your browser before your first visit. This site does not have a user account system, so there is no profile to delete on our side. If you have clicked an affiliate link, any data held by FxPro must be requested from FxPro directly.

If you believe this site has mishandled your data, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa, which is the authority for data protection in the country. This site is not a financial services provider and does not hold your money, so complaints about trading accounts or deposits should go to FxPro and, if unresolved, to the Financial Sector Conduct Authority. The regulator caveat for South Africa is that FxPro is licensed by the FCA (UK) and CySEC, and an FxPro entity holds an FSCA licence in South Africa — check which entity your own account is opened with.

The third parties that receive data when you use this site

Two third parties may receive data when you use this site: the analytics provider that processes the aggregate visit counts, and FxPro when you click a broker link. The analytics provider receives the page URL, a random session identifier, and the time of visit, but not your name, email, or calculator inputs. FxPro receives the affiliate tracking code and any information its own cookies collect after you land on its site, which is governed by FxPro's privacy policy. This site does not sell data to any other third party.

The analytics provider is not permitted to use the data for advertising or to combine it with other websites you visit. This site does not use a content delivery network that logs your IP address, and it does not embed social media pixels, advertising tags, or third-party chat widgets. If you use an e-wallet or bank transfer to fund a broker account, that transaction happens entirely on the broker's site, and this site never sees the payment details. The only third party that can link your visit to this site is FxPro, and only if you click an affiliate link.

This site does not share your calculator inputs with any third party because those inputs never leave your browser. The analytics provider receives no form data, and FxPro receives no form data from this site. If you contact this site by email, your email provider and ours will process the message, but that is separate from browsing the site. This site does not use a third-party comment system, a login provider, or a live chat service, so there are no other parties involved in a standard visit.

What this site stores on your device and what it never stores

This site stores only two things on your device: a small preference flag that remembers whether you have dismissed the cookie notice, and a local storage entry that records the last instrument you selected on the calculators. It never stores the numbers you type into the calculators, your name, email address, phone number, or any identity document details. Those stay in the browser tab and are discarded when you close it. If you clear your browser storage, the preference flag and instrument choice are deleted, and the site will ask you about cookies again on your next visit.

This site does not store your trading account credentials, your broker login, your bank account number, or your card details. It also does not store your IP address in a database or log file that we control. The only persistent data is the cookie notice flag and the instrument selection, both of which are set by JavaScript in your browser and never transmitted to our servers. If you use a shared computer, those two items will be visible to the next person who uses the same browser profile until they clear it or you use a private window.

This site does not store any health information, political opinions, religious beliefs, or biometric data, and it does not ask for them. The calculators are designed to work with the numbers you choose to enter, such as a lot size or an account balance in rand, and those numbers are not saved anywhere by the site. If you refresh the page, the calculator resets to its default values because no input is written to local storage. The only exception is the instrument selection, which is stored as a short text string such as XAU/USD.

Brokers set their own cookies

A broker sets its own cookies under its own policy once you follow a link to it. That policy is the broker's, not ours, and it governs what the broker records about your visit and your account. We cannot change it, and we cannot answer for it, so read the broker's privacy notice before you open an account.

This desk is not a broker and does not hold client money or account data. If you have a question about what a broker recorded, the broker is the only party who can answer it. If you have a question about what this site does with data, the answer is in the two sections above, and the mailbox is editor@mzansipaperza.com.

FAQ

Common questions

What personal information does Mzansi Paper collect when I read a page?

The site collects what you choose to send, such as a name and email address in the contact form, plus basic technical data that any web server logs, like the pages you visited. We do not ask for identity documents, bank details or broker login credentials, and you should never send those.

Does the site store my rand amounts or trading figures if I use the calculators?

The position size, pip value, margin, profit and pivot point calculators run the numbers to show you a result; they are not a record of your account. We do not build a profile of your trades from calculator inputs. Treat any figure you type as illustrative, not as data we keep for marketing.

Will Mzansi Paper share my email address with FxPro or another broker?

No. We do not pass your contact details to a broker. If you click through to a broker and open an account, that relationship is between you and them, and their own privacy terms apply from that point. Read those terms before you submit documents or fund anything in rand.

Does the site use cookies, and can I refuse them?

The site may use cookies for basic function and to measure which pages are read. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings, though some features may then behave differently. Refusing cookies does not stop you reading the explanatory content or using the calculators.

How do I ask for a message I sent to the desk to be deleted?

Contact the desk with the email address you used and ask for the message to be removed. We will delete correspondence that is not needed for an open correction or a legal obligation. We cannot delete records held by a broker you dealt with directly, since those are outside our control.
